🌟 Exploring Pissouri: A Sustainable Tourism Treasure Hunt | Sunday, 1st June 2025 🌟

On Sunday, June 1st, 2025, an unforgettable experiential activity took place in the heart of Pissouri village—recently awarded "Best Tourism Village 2024" by UNWTO. Young participants embarked on a fun and educational journey, discovering the village's rich culture, sustainable businesses, scenic viewpoints, and warm hospitality through a series of interactive challenges. From meeting local shop owners and uncovering historic landmarks to capturing creative photos and interviewing locals, this treasure hunt-style event blended learning with adventure, celebrating the beauty and eco-conscious spirit of Pissouri. The day culminated in a joyful gathering at Platea tavern for dinner and reflection on a day full of exploration, connection, and community pride.

Pissouri, a charming village in Cyprus, has been honored with the "Best Tourism Villages 2024" award by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). This accolade recognizes Pissouri's dedication to sustainable tourism, cultural preservation, and community engagement. The village offers a variety of specialized tourism experiences, including cycling and hiking routes, religious sites, water sports, diving, conference tourism, horseback riding, bird watching, and stargazing. Pissouri also highlights local culture through products like halloumi cheese, soultanina grapes, and wine, alongside arts workshops, traditional cuisine, rural activities, and cultural events. The community has been acknowledged for its environmental initiatives, receiving the Green Community Award and being named the "Cyprus Green Capital 2020-2021," earning the Golden Muflon Award for developing thematic routes that prioritize environmental respect.

The Communal Amphitheater of Pissouri is a new amphitheater with old design (coming from ancient theaters); find it and find the place where you can talk and be heard from everywhere. Take a photo of this place with your group in it. (If the amphitheater is closed you can take a photo at the entrance)

Super close to the fountain is one of the few markets in central Pissouri. The owner enjoys when visitors come to Pissouri from Erasmus, what is his name? Take a group photo with him!

Pissouri is growing and there are a lot of restaurants. In Pissouri square there is a restaurant named VRAKAS. What does that mean? How is this restaurant relying on the history and traditions of Cyprus? Bonus points if you get a picture with the name of the restaurant in the background or one of the owners!

Both monuments are dedicated to man who was a community leader (president of Pissuri) from 1929 to 1981. He also established the area with restaurants in the centre of the city.

Right next to the hotel at the top of the hill (task 4!) is the offices of the organization that is hosting you! There's the logo in front of the building, with your team, take a creative photo with it!

📷 Task 13

Since Pissouri was recently in the list of Best Tourism Villages 2024, A new "frame" was popped up in the square, ideal for taking photos for Instagram/facebook stories. Can you find it? Take a photo with your group with this frame!

Pissouri is a cozy village, in which tourists can enjoy their stay since it has an amazing view of the mountains the sea and the houses. The square is full of positive vibes. There is a rich history and we got to know more about the Cypriot culture.
We love it! Awesome !! and very unique!!!
The landscapes are lovely, people are really friendly and ready to help with all the tasks. A lot of hills but it was worth to do all the way to see such amazing views

We really liked the idea, and the view was truly impressive. Seeing the city from above gave us a great sense of its size and energy. There's so much to explore, and we enjoyed the opportunity to learn things we didn't know before—plus, we recommend you guys to visit panorama cafeteria, it's delicious ! As a team, we appreciated the chance to connect with new members, understand how each of us reacts in challenging situations, and how we deal with conflicts. It was a great way to explore the city while learning more about ourselves and each other.
It's like the cities of Lebanon, we like the flowers, it's very calm and here is a lot of cars, and it is so cozy

Pissuri impressed us with its villagy coziness, beautiful panoramic views, and picturesque landscapes. The village surprised us with steepy hills and narrow streets filled with history. We deeply enjoyed our time in Pissuri.

We all thought that Pissouri was a nice place, with a variety of monuments and churches to see, even though some places were closed, it doesn't take away from the fact that Pissouri is a great place.
